SPINAL CORD COMPRESSION IN PAGET´S DISEASE

Abstract

|
Paget´s disease is a chronic disease of the adult skeleton characterized by bowing and irregular flattening of the bones. Any or all of the bones of the skeleton may be affected, but the tibia, skull and pelvis are the most frequent site of the changes.
The disease produces disability only when there is involvement of the skull or spine. In the affected bones there are imbalance between the process of bone formation and bone resorption. The areas of bone destruction are filled with hyper; lastic vascular connective tissue. Compression of the spinal cord is a rare frequency.
We report a case of spinal Paget´s disease compressing high thoracic spinal cord. Decompressive laminectomy & removal of the tumor is the choice of treatment.
